I was first introduced to the Yorkshire Terrier about 10 years ago when I saw a picture of the most adorable dog. Not only did I feel that I must have one, I wanted to learn all I could about the breed. I was in love! Our first Yorkie, purchased from a wonderful breeder who helped to mentor me, was a 7 pound female with fold over ears, a beautiful coat of dark blond and silver, with the most perfect little face. I named her Daisy. We let her fully mature, well into her second year before breeding her with a worthy stud. We kept one, robust little female, from the litter, and soon acquired a beautiful male as well. Our beautiful little family of Yorkies was broken apart however when our two precious girls were lifted out our backyard by a thief. All our searching was in vain. How I miss them!
It’s been several years now since the tragedy. This year we met Kathy, a very experienced breeder who has become a dear friend. From her we adopted “Mr. Darcy,” a small stud who has won my heart in a way I didn’t even know was possible. He is lively in play, yet content to just sit quietly on my lap, or on the floor, wherever I am, at home or on the road. He is now just beginning training for the show ring. I have high hopes for him. What a huge blessing he has been - I can't imagine my life without him! Even now, as I write, he is resting at my feet.
We are currently in the process of purchasing “Miss. Elizabeth,” (or “Lizzy,”), a prancing little female, whom we also plan to show. She comes from a long line of champions from back East. We are very excited to have her!
We love all our dogs. They are all registered AKC. We are very strong advocates for microchipping to help ensure that a lost or stolen pet can be more easily recovered. We have a terrific vet, Duane Hunt, at Homestead Animal Clinic in Mesa. The staff is wonderful as well. Our philosophy on canine health maintenance definitely has a holistic slant. Our Yorkies are fed a special diet supplemented with herbs and natural supplements. They also get plenty of exercise and energetic play.
If you already have or plan to adopt a Yorkshire Terrier into your family, I hope receive as much joy, love and affection from their lives as we have received from our beloved, furry companions. We are always happy to offer advice and answer any questions you may have, thanks for visiting!
